Reblog this post with your weirdest ancestor’s name.

I had a great-grandfather named Kermit Dickman.

why did you start a competition that you’ve already won

two great-grandfathers from different sides: Agey and Ion

I take back my previous answer. I just found an ancestor called Scrob Scrope.

Hmm… I feel I should have some more interesting names. There’s my great grandfather, Aglen. My great-great-grandfather’s brother who was Ernest Septimus Reynolds. Lots and lots of Irish names. On my husband’s side we’ve got the surname Walakaitas, and we’re not even sure how that’s meant to be spelt.

Not too many weird ones, but I’ve got a couple with relentlessly Southern names. I have a great-grandmother named Beulah (my mom was almost Beulah-bell – thankfully I think my grandfather talked my grandmother out of it.) I have a grandmother named Laverne, who went by Bern. It’s the Bible-belt so a lot of Bible names, but not many unusual ones. Through my dad’s dad, there’s a lot of Russian names. My great-grandfather was Timofeyev, but that’s only unusual here in Texas. He went by Tom. His cousin’s name was Koster, but he was called Kasey, and welp.
