As I seem to be a magnet for the kind of guy who erroneously believes that being a cynic makes him either smart or interesting, I have something to say. 

This “altruism is a lie” thing is not only just plain wrong, it’s also monumentally stupid. There is nothing morally wrong with looking around at pollution, sweatshops, sexual assault, and mass shootings and thinking  “This place blows. What can I do to fix it up a bit?”
