I think it might be a good time to remember that Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle, often credited with starting the Food and Drug Administration and most of the laws that keep corporations from poisoning your food to cut corners, was actually about how the massive health violations and unsanitary conditions were the inevitable result of corporations prioritizing profit at the expense of workers and customers. They can and will poison you for an extra buck unless you give them a compelling reason not to, and “making sick people handle food will spread disease” is apparently not compelling enough unless it can be traced back to them.
