silent lunches were so….weird. like the entire cafeteria was expected to be quiet and it usually was a punishment for something super dumb tbh like i remember a bunch of kids popped plastic bags one day so we got silent lunch for a week and everyone was just….sitting there all quiet. it was duuuumb
the only funny part tho was sitting around ur friends and all of u trying VERY VERY HARD not to laugh when someone makes a face or something like that, or trying to sneak into the bathroom so u can talk…even then tho fuck silent lunches
ppl keep going “what the FUCK is a silent lunch why would schools have that” and im like. genuinely so forgetful abt the fact that silent lunches are one of those american public school things that literally dont make any sense
they are NOT universal across american public school systems
public schools are weird enough that you have trouble telling if this is the normal level of mildly bad or uniquely disturbing bad
In my middle school they took it a step farther and boys and girls were forced to line up and then they would sit us one by one. we could only sit on one side of the table alternating boy/girl with a seat in between it was wild and there was never enough seats so half he groupd had to eat in special tables set up on the stage and outside it was just. Too Much effort
In my middle school you had to sit with your class even though we were all in the same room so every damn day I’m stuck with all the other choir kids while my best friend was RIGHT THERE and the administration was like “we don’t want anyone to sit alone and FEEL BAD” trying to protect the outcasts but I WAS ONE OF THE OUTCASTS and they were keeping me from one of the only friends I had.
We had silent lunches too it was bullshit.
