Another serious question

Has anyone had a problem with sleep aids doing weird things mentally once you wake up? I’m not talking about ambien and sleepwalking. I usually take melatonin to help me sleep. I ran out of my usual stuff and bought a different brand to try. (It was a better deal.)

I’ve been using it for a couple days and immediately I’ve noticed something weird which may or may not be related. My sense of time is…off. Way off.

Like last night, it was about 9:45. I went out into the living room to look for something. Then I went to brush my teeth and get ready for bed. All told this felt like it took about 15 minutes. But when I looked at my phone, it was 11 PM almost exactly.

I was at a stop light this morning. It felt like I was there for about 30 seconds but I looked at the clock and I’d been at that light for 5 minutes. (I hate that light so much.)

Is this a thing? It came on really suddenly, just in the past few days and the only thing that’s changed was the brand of melatonin I’m using. Am I taking too much? Sometimes I find the recommended dose too strong and I’m woozy in the morning. But I woke up in the middle of the night last night and had a hard time going back to sleep.

Anyone have any ideas?

I was reading about executive dysfunction on Wikipedia and the perception of passage of time may be related to that and my probable ADHD.

So maybe, since lack of energy can exacerbate ADHD symptoms, the melatonin making me groggy and tired and not putting me out through the night is making me so mentally tired that I’ve lost sense of my place in the space-time continuum? Maybe?

Great…..

ADHD culture is saying “what?” when you heard the question someone asked you but… It didn’t fucking… Register… In the brain? And then you hear the question before they ask again and interrupt them when they’re talking because now you’re An Asshole™ who understands

Someone: Hey what time is it?

Me: What?

Someone: Wha-

Me: It’s 3:20

My favorite lifehack is I’m never too polite to take leftovers from any event. “Please take leftovers,” the hostess says, and everyone diffidently murmurs something about the size of their fridge, but I am already sweeping an entire basket of bagels into my tote bag. I gather there may be some unspoken rule of upperclass etiquette that stands in people’s way but listen. Break free of your chains

pro tip: tell people that ur “committed to reducing food waste“ and not only will they not judge u, but you will be seen as conforming to upperclass etiquette

#i could write an essay about how the perceived class of those accepting free food directly correlates with other’s reactions #discovering the term ‘food waste’ suddenly turns people from scroungers to planet savers #and it’s all the damn same thing #if you take free food because you need it you’re seen as a scrounger #if you take it to reduce food waste you’re a god damn hero
