I have this thing where people will, within seconds of knowing me, immediately telling me their life story and the worst things about their lives. It was really bad when I worked retail but now it’s people in my complex. Creepy Neighbor from last night for example, the first thing he said to me was that his sister and his niece had died recently and that he’d moved in with his family because his sister had cancer. I don’t even know if this guy knows my name. This happens all. The. Time. And I used to just feel bad for these people. But I am so tired all the time. And now idk I’m starting to get mad. I’m depressed. I’m tempted to end it all at some point most days. I’m absolutely exhausted and do any of these people care about that? Of course not. They take the fact that I am too tired to speak as an invitation to keep going. Or I’ll try to say I have to go and they interrupt me to keep talking.

I’m too tired for this.

I want you guys to feel like you can talk to me about stuff you’re going through. But I consider you guys, especially my mutuals, my friends. It’s part of the deal and plenty of you reciprocate. There’s no reciprocity with these people. It’s more like a conversational hostage situation.

Just unfollowed a blog for judging one of my favorite actors for gasp drinking milk. (Blog runner is vegan) calling it “heartbreaking” and justifying this attitude because they’re a dietician.

I have no patience today.

Getting tired of the minimalism videos in my youtube feed. I like declutter videos but minimalism is not the only way to live. And these people always want me to get rid of my books. Lol yeah fuck that. (And “who watches dvds anymore just stream it” lady – we need to talk.)

Especially the “how to cope when the person you live with is not a minimalist.” There’s a wide gap between minimalism and hoarding. If you can’t stand anything more than minimalism then don’t waste someone’s time.

Yeah, I’d love to see someone streaming something on our sub 1mpbs connection. Also, I don’t want to have to rely on the things I want to watch always being available online. What about when the service decides to remove them because they’re not popular enough, and so on?

Also, yes, books!!!

The things I like to watch tend to fall under a genre I like to call Weird Niche-y Bullshit. Ridiculously old shows, or really cerebral stuff or kids shows from the 90s that nobody else remembers, Canadian horror series, 60s soap operas about vampires, etc. Most of this stuff is not streaming on legit sites so I either have to get it on dvd or pirate it. Some things aren’t even on dvd. (So Weird, I’m looking at you.)

It would have blown that girl’s mind if she knew I still have vhs tapes and 2 vcrs. But some movies I even have on both dvd and vhs because the dvd is better quality but also has scenes removed so the only way to watch the theatrical release is on vhs. Also…old school previews.

Same with books. One video said you can just borrow a book from the library if you want to reread it. Pretty sure my local library doesn’t have The Archaeology of Garbage or any of the other obscure text books I’ve collected lying around but thanks for playing.

And you are so right about not wanting to depend on an Internet connection to watch things. I don’t live out in a rural area but my connection here isn’t great and my computer is so slow. And about stuff getting removed. Golden Girls is only streaming on hulu so having physical copies just makes it easier to access.

I don’t even want to get into how difficult minimalism can be if you’re broke. Maybe I didn’t need 2 toasters or 2 hair dryers, but I’ll be glad I have them when one craps out at the worst possible moment. For some people “just go buy another one” isn’t an option.

Also with the streaming thing, some people want to get nice screencaps and make gifs/edits but some streaming services make it so that you can’t screencap or capture footage of the show/movie in-browser

god yes- as someone who loves books but has trouble reading – I am so tired of trying to explain to people that I;m being this horrible obscure book right now to join the legions of others stacked on my to do list because the odds of me finding it again are nil.

Exactly. I go to used bookstores and library sales so much, most of my books can’t just be ordered on amazon. And I have a lot of specialized texts for old classes, not to mention some antiques and first editions. I have a shelf devoted to books that were my dad’s.

I just ordered the 3 Forever Knight novelizations and I have an entire bag full of Star Trek books from the 70s. I can’t just hop down to the library if I want to read those.

It’d probably kill these people to know I have multiple copies of a lot of books. BUT some are antique collectibles and a lot of them have annotations from different scholars. Comparing notes on classic lit is fun…if you’re me.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, is that it’s expensive having “minority” interests.  (Multiply that by X if you life in Australia–all those international postage charges on top of whatever you’re trying to buy!)

I find the positive thing about being like this is the sheer thrill when you manage to find whatever rare item you’ve been hunting for… it must be very dull having everything laid out for you!

Thank goodness for the internet. I’ve gone hunting for tv movies from the 80s and gotten lucky. I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be having to ship stuff that far. Youtube and ebay are great, but IOffer has been my saving grace several times too.

It’s fine to be mostly into mainstream stuff, I’m not about to throw words like “sheeple” around, but if you don’t, if you’re like us and into obscure or old stuff, throwing things out is just a no. You may never find it again.

omg please kill me

Arthur was demanding to go out and we met my neighbor, an adult man, who

  • Asked me twice if I’m married
  • Invited me to practice witchcraft with him, specifically “Black Magic” and didn’t believe me when I said I’m not into it, insisting I could do it because I “wear black all the time”
  • Repeatedly called my male dog a girl (he sits to pee so a lot of people think he is, but he’s met my dog several times before) When I explained that he was neutered before he developed an instinct to hike, so he just doesn’t do it, he proclaimed “Oh my god I’m gay!” because he let Arthur lick his face so much. He was kidding and I told him he’ll live, but yeah, that’s not how that works.
  • said several times that I’m “a damn fine woman” and “I don’t care what anybody says” ok thanks
  • Told me I need to get my dog to stop peeing where he pees because people are complaining – dude I literally cannot help where he pees. He pees where he pees. And since he goes almost as soon as we hit the grass, it means he really needs to go. And it’s Texas. In summer. It dries within minutes wtf.
  • Told me as I was walking in that I have great legs
  • demanded to know why I hadn’t spoken to him lately, not really accepting my explanation that I’m quiet and I listen to music so don’t always hear why people talk to me
  • knocked on my door as soon as I walked in (I ignored him)

He seems like a lonely guy but if I get murdered, tell the cops to look next door.
