trying to make me jealous is the worst way of attempting to get my attention because ill just assume you don’t actually like me that much and that you’d be happier w/ someone else so ill leave you alone because i don’t like competing for affection and wish you the best in whoever you pursue instead

Consent is like….the absolute minimum. Sex can be unhealthy, damaging, and traumatic without being criminal, and you have an ethical, if not legal, responsibility to do everything possible to avoid hurting your partner.

I want to add some examples to this, because I think it’s important to emphasize that this mostly isn’t rocket science, nor is it some vague “just remember to doubt yourself in everything you do!”  It’s stuff like this:

  • Don’t cheat.
  • Don’t expose people to STIs without their knowledge.
  • Don’t take advantage of someone who’s going through a crisis by offering them “sexual healing.”
  • Don’t have sex with a student, employee, or someone who otherwise might not be free to say no to you.
  • Don’t ignore signs that consent is being given reluctantly.
  • Don’t rules-lawyer or look for loopholes in consent.
  • If you know someone is new to an activity that you’re experienced in, don’t throw them in the deep end for their first time.
  • Don’t do any of the above to yourself, either.

This isn’t meant to be a complete list or anything, just a sense that this isn’t an abstract topic.  There are concrete examples of how consensual sex can still be unethical.

Don’t go after specific demographics and individuals specifically because you know or think they have “less options” and are less likely to say no

HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS IS AN EMERGENCY

That bit about “belongs to the legislative branch” – if that passes as it stands, it sets precedent to ignore Roe v Wade, to ignore gay marriage, to ignore Brown v Board of Education. Every fucking advance we’ve made in the last sixty years has come through the Supreme Court first.

It is *absolutely* deliberate that this is attached to a bill about trans rights, because that gives them the maximum “oh well that doesn’t affect me” safety from progressive activists as well as the maximum “yeah fuck those tr*nnies back to hell” coverage from conservatives. Very few cis people give a shit about trans rights, and a LOT of cis people care a hell of a lot about hurting trans people.

This is where TWEFs kill feminism. You don’t get up in arms against this bill, you lose your birth control, your reproductive freedom, your right to work, everything. But hating trans women is more important.

^^^ This is what’s most lost in this discussion.

This bill is an extreme power grab completely violating the Judiciary Branch’s powers and can be used as precident for stirping anything decided in court.

Just like how NC Republicans snuck in barring people from suing the state government for discrimination into their bathrooms bill, they attached huge power grabs to bills going after an easy target.

Enough people on both the left and right despise trans people (especially trans women) that they’d support striping their own rights just to stick it to us.

Ok I know I’m a hermit and all, but I feel like I’ve seen next to no advertisement for the Dark Tower movie and I just found out it comes out Friday.

Is it all over TV and stuff and I just don’t see it because I’m a recluse with really good adblocking software? Or is it’s PR team taking a really long nap?

I’ve seen TV ads (just saw one last night while I was watching Preacher live) but the PR does seem a bit off. And there’s a review embargo.

I just caught an ad for it on some random youtube video, and that was the first time. I don’t have cable so I thought my perspective might be skewed. But all the replies I’ve got said what you said.

I had to look up review embargo, though I guess that does what it says on the tin. I didn’t know that was a thing though. (Man I need to socialize more.) That seems sort of weird and counter intuitive. And I’ve seen way more PR for It than I have for Dark Tower. Unless the studio has more faith in It than DT, I don’t really get why.
