Vegans of tumblr, listen up. Harvesting agave in the quantities required so you dont have to eat honey is killing mexican long-nosed bats. They feed off the nectar and pollinate the plants. They need the agave. You want to help the environment? Go back to honey. Your liver and thyroid will thank you, as well. Agave is 90% fructose, which can cause a host of issues. Bye.

Beekeeper here! Just wanted to say that the fact that vegans won’t eat honey is very silly. Harvesting honey does not hurt bees. The invention of modern moveable-frame hives means we can remove a selected frame, extract the honey and return it without killing a single bee.

If we destroyed the colony to harvest honey there would be no bees for next year, and beekeepers are incredibly careful to keep their bees healthy and thriving. We take *excess* honey that they don’t need, and it stops the hive from becoming honey-bound, meaning that there’s so much honey the Queen has nowhere to lay eggs. And if the winter is harsher than expected and the remaining honey store runs low, we feed the bees plenty to make sure they survive. We also make sure that pests are controlled, bees are treated for disease, and the hive is weatherproof and in good repair, all things that wild bees struggle with.

Keeping bees in properly managed hives where they don’t starve or die from preventable disease is much better for them than being left to fend for themselves, and they’re far too important to be left alone.

All the fruits and vegetables that vegans *do* eat couldn’t exist without bees, and the hives which pollinate those crops also produce excess honey which the beekeepers can sell to help keep themselves and their hives going.

TLDR: BUY THE HONEY, HELP THE BEES.

My class pretended to play dead.

Just as the Mayans predicted, the apocalypse came with the signal of a cough.

these middle schoolers read better than my high school honors english class

I REALLY HAVE TO REBLOG THIS IM SORRY THE FUCKING TEACHER

“Stop being dead right now”

That’s the reaction of an adult who delights in what you just did, but is in the position of Enforcing The Rules, so they have to tell you to stop anyway

Every time I see that glee face he gets its like “fine I guess I’ll reblog”

Here’s what Donald Trump doesn’t want you to know: ACA open enrollment begins TODAY!

Spread the word and #GetCovered.

Also, the time to enroll has been CUT IN HALF. They tried to kill off the ACA, but could only manage to damage it.

*****You have until Dec. 15! Don’t delay!*****

healthcare.gov GO GO GO

Reminder: the deadline is December 15

I did this last year and inexplicably turned out to be eligible for Medicaid in WV, which I STILL have. Absolute and total lifechanger that’s letting me go to school instead of having to work full time.

#signal boost#i know the original tweet is dated 2017 but the enrolment dates are the same!#november 1 to december 15#i got confused and thought i was reblogging something outdated#but this goes for 2019 coverage!

Copying @xfreischutz‘s tags because it was a really good point. The dates for now are the same as last year. Get out there and get you your health insurance!

(Personal note: I qualified for Medicaid in Pennsylvania last year and I wasn’t expecting it. It really does help if you do it.)

NOTE – the Trump administration has allowed the sale of short term and catastrophic coverage plans. DO NOT BUY THESE. THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU. THEY ARE PREDATORY.

Make sure, if you qualify for ACA coverage, that you are purchasing a plan that is at least Silver tier!

@vague-humanoid

!! ENDS DECEMBER 15 !!

I bought and downloaded all 3 (three) BBC radio dramatizations of Lord of the Rings with Ian Holm as Frodo so I could listen to them at work but now

It’s new (to me) LOTR material

I am not ready.

I am not feeling Gollum’s voice. Andy Serkis is a tough act to live up to but the narrator of the audiobook did a really good job too.

But Ian Holm as Frodo and Bill Nighy as Sam sound adorable so far.

DAVID COLLINGS AS LEGOLAS?????????? EXCUSE ME??????????????????

Yeah…I haven’t gotten to him yet. I’ll let you know how that goes. I’m having a really hard time wrapping my head around Robert Stephens as Aragorn? What.

I can’t recognize Bill Nighy’s voice at all. I’m trying to imagine his Sam voice coming out of Davey Jones’s mouth and it is just not happening. He’s the sweetest thing though.

Ian Holm sounds like himself. Like his Bilbo voice from the movies but a lot younger.

Idk, it’s easy for me to imagine Robert Stephens as Aragorn, but yeah, maybe his voice is a bit too sweet.

I wonder if Bill Nighy’s voice changed a lot. I mean, it’s hard enough to imagine him being younger than 50 anyway.

Also, I like the idea of John Le Mesurier playing Bilbo, he was very sweet in Dad’s Army.

Ian Holm is just a hobbit, that’s it

It’s hard for me to imagine the guy from My Family and Galavant as the King imo Gondor but maybe he’ll disappear into the role like Bill Nighy is going. I can’t wait to see (hear?) what David Collings does with Legolas. I’m trying to imagine him the way Legolas looks in the movie with the hair and the image is kinda hilarious.

Ehm, Robert Stephens couldn’t be in Galavant, he died in 1995. I know him from A Taste of Honey (where he played a creepy guy, ok), The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (where he played Sherlock Holmes that canonically was in love with Watson) and The Prime of Miss Joan Brodie (where he was acting alongside with Maggie Smith who was his wife at the time). Are we talking about different people?

….my dumb ass somehow got him confused with Robert Lindsay.

I don’t know what the hell I was thinking.

Oh, I see 🙂 Happens to all of us.

(also, his real full name apparently is Robert Lindsay Stevenson, so, that’s spooky)

I’m practically a magnet for spooky things like that.

I really like how young Pippin sounds in this but

I just realized he sounds exactly like Cyril Bassington-Bassington from Jeeves and Wooster and it’s a bit distracting.
