LILY THIS POST IS FOR U SINCE ONLY YOU AND I SAW DARK SHADOWS

Luu, I Can’t watch Dark Shadows because I know if I do I Will Become sucked in. But I support your Dark Shadows blogging.

yeah Thats the problem YOU watch One Episode then end up watching 600

Exactly.

I can’t watch Dark Shadows rn because I stopped drinking and my blood was like 90% vodka when I watched it the first time and i’m not sure I would survive watching it sober.

I love that when Barnabas gets taken to the hospital after his car crash with viki the staff are like ‘lmao look at this loser with no blood or pulse what a weirdo’ and that’s. The entire extent of their reaction to him? They just can’t be bothered to give more than half a damn about this person who is in an inexplicable state of being

I think it’s time to face it: not only is the Collinsport police force hopeless, but the town’s medical profession is fairly useless as well.  No wonder the monsters and mad scientists have taken over the joint!

Then Dr. Lang starts immediately performing experiments on him without his consent. I mean geez at least Julia bothered to ask first…though to be fair that’s probably one of the least unethical things the denizens have gotten up to in this town.

JULIA: Barnabas, Barnabas, let me go.  He’s watching us, I know it.  Somewhere outside this house, he’s watching.  He knows what’s happening here.  Barnabas, go, go!
BARNABAS: Look at me, Julia.  Look at me!  You can hear me.  You will do as I say.  Now LOOK at me!
JULIA: You can escape.
BARNABAS: Not without you.
JULIA: But you can’t… can’t take me with you.
BARNABAS: Never without you!

Dark Shadows Episode 1070 – And that sound you here is the sound of a thousand Barnabas and Julia shippers squealing with happiness!

(And Barnabas and Julia do manage to escape 1995 and the ghost of Gerard Stiles by the end of the episode.  Sadly the events after their return to 1970 aren’t nearly as dramatic or as intense as their brief stay in 1995.)

how did barnabas get money in 1967?

i mean, the collins’ are rich but they never gave barnabas and liquid assets or cash.

when he shows up he claims he has all this cash, but like. he died 200 years ago.

and i know he has these hidden jewels to sell and all that but still

its implied that he has much more money barnabas couldnt have put THAT much into jewels in 1795 right?

anyway

I wonder how much money he could have needed. He wasn’t paying rent at the old house and it’s not like he had a utility bill. And as a vamp he didn’t need food except for Willy. If they’d had even a small sack of precious stones he might have been able to sell them for a decent chunk of cash, but where would he have gone for that? Maybe Willy told him where he could go, since he’d have no way of knowing himself, but you’d think a spectacularly creepy man attempting to exchange ridiculously old gems for cash would be just a tiny bit suspicious.

I did just realize though, Barnabas could have no way of fully understanding 1960s money. I bet if he ran into a clever broker he probably got screwed.

Well, Barnabas had to pay for a) suits, b) candles and c) all that Mad Science equipment down in the basement… and I suppose he had to feed and clothe Willie, too!

(And I recently finished watching the 1995 plot where he said Elizabeth had given him the title deeds to the Old House.  Quite a gift for someone who just shows up and announces himself to be a long-lost cousin from England – but wouldn’t that mean he had to pay taxes on the property?)

I think property taxes vary by state. A lot of that stuff, the candles especially would have been very easy for Willy to steal. The Mad scientist stuff Julia probably had in a basement somewhere. Or she pilfered it from Wyndcliffe.

That begs the question though, who told Barnabas how banking and taxes work? Maybe he got a couple thousand dollars selling the jewels and Liz taught him how to invest it.

BARNABAS: Why is fate so determined to offer me a chance for happiness, and then destroy it right before my eyes.
JULIA: We forget how rare a life of love can be.  You’re not the only one who’s had so little hope.  It’s something one learns to live with.  We can get used to anything if we have to.

(I’ve just finished watching the 1995 storyline, the episodes that launched a 1000 Barnabas and Julia ‘ships.  Here our intrepid couple stumble from 1970 Parallel Time to 1995 Real Time, only to find an abandoned and ruined Collinwood.  Barnabas, of course, stops for a self-pitying monologue!)

I did like her getting some commentary on his shit in this ep. Romantically frustrated? join the club Barnabas.
