“get off your phone, turn off your computer, the world is bigger than that, there’s more important stuff going on”
….no it’s not? there is nothing bigger or more important than my phone and my computer. that’s where my friends live. that’s how i talk to people in australia and canada and the netherlands. that’s how i keep in touch with my family on the other side of the country. it’s how i know what’s going on in people’s lives when i can’t get out of bed or leave the house.
like idk what old people do on their phones if they can’t grasp that this is what we’re all doing on our phones all the time. even the games i play are because my friends recommended them or to talk to my friends about them.
nothing is more important than human connection and that doesn’t change when the human is on the other end of my phone or computer
My computer is also where 90% of my books are and where at least half of the art I create is (it would be more if I didn’t have certain Tactile Feelings about dip pens) and while it’s possible that spending so much time on the computer isn’t great for my eyes/sensory issues/migraines, that’s also Important Stuff and in the absence of having an entire extra room in the apartment for a study/studio/library, the computer will have to do.
Also, like, I have to be on my computer…for my actual money paying job?
Like 95% of my responsibilities at my job are on my computer. I can’t just tell my boss “Sorry I can’t do your expense reports today. Sanctimonious Rando On the Internet says I should frolic more.”
