For those of you who do not know, In the South in the US, it’s tradition on New Years to eat black eyed peas for good luck in the coming year. I don’t know why or where it comes from but it’s Something We Just Do and this year I decide to have a go at making them from scratch. I’m kind of already doing it Wrong because I’m making them the day before New Years Day but w/e.

I went all out and made them with bacon and I used chicken broth instead of water to cook them in and omg they are the most delicious thing I have made in this new kitchen thus far. 11/10 would definitely make again holy shit.
