The internet is a utility.

Imagine the phone company throttling your calls or picking which phone calls you can receive?

“Imagine the phone company throttling your calls or picking which phone calls you can receive?“

The fastest internet in the United States is not private. It is operated as a utility. Chattanooga. The city was updating the power grid and the people working on it realized that putting in the infrastructure for high speed internet at the same time would not be that much more expensive. So that’s what they did. And a bunch of ISPs sued the city to try to stop them. Because guess what? Despite all the rhetoric in favor of the “free market”, these companies don’t actually want real competition.

So now Chattanooga has the fastest internet speeds in the entire country. It also has some of the cheapest costs in the entire country because it is run like a utility and owned by the city.

The sad part about this is that those same ISPs that sued are trying to get cities and states to pass laws to make what Chattanooga did essentially illegal.

CNN did an article on it a few years back: http://money.cnn.com/2014/05/20/technology/innovation/chattanooga-internet/index.html

The year is 2018. Your bills are on autopay. You just got paid and you still have $1200 from the last check. When you want something, you buy it without moving money around. Your credit cards are paid off. You and your friends have 2 international trips planned and paid for this year. Your parents are in great health and you’re able to help if they need anything. You love your job. Your desired creative career is falling into place and you get to take your little cousins to Six Flags and Universal Studios over the Summer. Your relationships are healthy and supportive. All of the toxic energy from the past 6 years is gone. You going to concerts, eating good across the states and your crib has art and warmth throughout. 2018 is going to be so good to you.

reblogging this for that 2018 good luck

Yes!!!!!! Guys, this is SO important! The end of net neutrality could mean the end of the internet as we know it–as a graphic designer, photographer and web designer whose main platform is the internet, I seriously FEAR for my future and all other small business owners, artists, and people who base their livelihood off of the internet if this passes… Not to mention the end of any online friendships, long distance relationship, and easy contact with loved ones. It will be the end of any form of a level playing field on the internet and that is NOT okay and seriously dangerous to our society that relies heavily on the digital world.

Everyone should make a call to their congresspeople and lawmakers and express your concerns! Sign all the petitions! Go to the protests! Tell your friends! Family! Post about it in your tumblr description, your twitter and instagram bios, share any post you see on facebook! Annoy the SHIT out of your followers and friends until they do something about it! Tell everyone you can! Net neutrality is SO important!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE VOTING ON THIS ON DECEMBER 14TH, THAT IS ONLY 4 DAYS AWAY! BE ANNOYING AS HELL, DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN!!!!!!

Here are some links I hope yall can find helpful:

Please add more to this post if you see fit!

I’m still sick as a dog so I put my bed together and moved some things around and now I’m just chilling watching the Beetlejuice cartoon.

Still no internet though. Apparently the cable outlet is fucked and I need to have a technician come look at it 😦
